"Safe Play for Children – Peace of Mind for Parents"

1. Objectives

This event aims to raise awareness among farming households about preventing child labor cases contrary to legal regulations within the pepper industry. Simultaneously, it seeks to share the benefits of the after-school childcare model in creating safe spaces for children, thereby allowing parents to work with peace of mind. Specifically, after the program:

For Farming Households:

  • Understand what constitutes child labor contrary to legal regulations and identify specific tasks children should not or are not permitted to participate in during pepper production.

  • Recognize the risks associated with bringing children to the fields/farms with parents.

  • Understand the benefits of the established "safe play and after-school childcare point" model.

  • Reach a consensus and show readiness to participate in building and maintaining this model within the community.

For the Community:

  • Strengthen the bond between parents, children, and the community.

  • Encourage participation and commitment to supporting and maintaining the after-school childcare model.

2. Participants

  • Pepper farming households.

  • Parents with primary school-aged children.

  • Primary school-aged children.

  • Representatives from village and commune authorities.

  • Representatives from enterprises.

3. Scale

100 participants (50 adults + 50 children).

4. Expected Outputs

Quantitative:

  • 50 households participating fully in the event.

Qualitative:

  • Parents gain a clearer understanding of child labor contrary to legal regulations, the specific risks to children and young workers in pepper production, and necessary safety measures.

  • The community recognizes that the safe play and childcare point is a preventive measure against illegal child labor and a solution to support livelihoods, rather than just a recreational activity for children.

  • Children have the opportunity to experience a safe and joyful play space.

  • Local authorities and socio-political organizations gain a stronger foundation to accompany the construction and maintenance of the model.

5. Key Messages

  • Message 1: Children need education, play, and safe development.

  • Message 2: Do not let children perform heavy work or come into contact with chemicals in pepper gardens.

  • Message 3: A safe place to play helps parents work with peace of mind and children develop better.
